Abstract

TRACHEOTOMY is performed at every age of life. The indications for tracheotomy vary considerably in childhood from those in adult life. In a small child the operation requires a more meticulous surgical technic than the same procedure in a fully developed adult. Mortality, postoperative complications and the ease of decannulation differ substantially in children and in mature persons.
