Prolactin synergizes with testosterone to increase the wet weight of the dorsolateral prostate of the rat and the functional activity of this gland, as indicated by an increase in zinc content. Prolactin, in the absence of testicular androgens, increased the uptake of zinc by the dorsolateral prostate.
