Abstract

Because of tbe vastness of tbis subject, tbe editor explains that it was impossible to cover all aspects of insect reproduction. An exbaustive, encyclopedic approacb was not taken. However, tbe reviewer feels that considerable skiIJ was demonstrated in the selection of important topics that complement each other, approaching the central theme from many different perspectives.Tbe topics were sufficiently diverse so that there was very little repetition among the reviews.DJring tbe symposium, a discussion period followed the presentation of each paper. These discussions were recorded and edited to an average length of approximately one page; they are presented in the book following their respective topics. This feature is considered valuable because tbe discussions help to clarify vague points, to present other views, and to point out potentially fertile areas for further research.T'le reviewer found the book stimulating and enligb•:ening. In view of the comprehensive nature of the papers and the associated literature citations, this publication sbould be an excellent reference for those en-gag<:d in teaching or researcb dealing with most phases of insect biology.
