R ANTIGEN OF VIBRIO CHOLERAE

Abstract

Serological properties of R antigen of Vibrio cholerae were studied with 46 strains representing each serotype of the species. Agglutination and agglutinin-absorption tests demonstrated that R antigens of all strains of V. cholerae were identical. It was also observed that most 0 antisera for V. cholerae contained some quantity of R antibody.No difference in colony morphology was recognized between the S parent and its R mutant cultures.
