Alpha-Fetoprotein: Diagnostic and Prognostic Use in Patients with Hepatomas

Abstract

The use of alpha-fetoprotein for the detection of hepatocellular carcinomas in two adult patients and a newborn infant is presented. The use of alpha-fetoprotein for monitoring the responses of the hepatomas to surgical resection, irradiation, and chemotherapy is described. Alpha-fetoprotein is illustrated in a hepatocellular carcinoma by indirect immunofluorescence.
