Enzymatic oxidation of pantothenylalcohol to Pantothenic acid by rat liver extract was demonstrated. The enzyme responsible to the first step of the oxidative reactions was highly purified from rat liver, and identity of the enzyme with liver alcohol dehydrogenase (alcohol: NAD oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.1) was evidenced.
