Analgesic Relative Potency Assay Comparing Flurbiprofen 50, 100, and 150 mg, Aspirin 600 mg, and Placebo in Postsurgical Dental Pain

Abstract

Flurbiprofen is a derivative of ibuprofen that appears to be more potent. The purpose of this study was to explore the analgesic dose-effect range of this new nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent. In a dental impaction pain model, 151 patients were evaluated in a double-blind, single-dose, parallel group study. Aspirin 600 mg and placebo were compared with flurbiprofen 50, 100, and 150 mg. Flurbiprofen had a liner dose effect and all dosages were significantly better than aspirin and placebo for total effects, peak effects, and time to remedication. There were few side-effects in the study and none were serious.
