There is little information available on the bovine coccidia to supplement oocyst studies in the definition of species. The relative pathogenicity, localization in the tissues, and morphology of the intracellular stages of coccidia from bovines have not been worked out on a comparative basis. To be reliable, such information should be based on experimental work with pure cultures and coccidia-free hosts. Considering the difficulties involved in providing these experimental conditions with bovines, a long time will elapse before speciation in these coccidia can be established with a thoroughness approaching that accomplished for chicken coccidia.
