SSCHERICHIA COLI has been found frequently in infections of fowl. Too often the presence of coliforms was passed over as contamination since there was no reliable method of identifying the E. coli strains accurately or separating the pathogens from the nonpathogens. With the advent of serological typing of E. coli, a method became available for assessing their etiological significance in disease. In contrast to the numerous reports of E. coli serotypes isolated from humans, calves, pigs, and lambs, the serological classification of E. coli cultures isolated from poultry diseases has been limited.2,3,0,8,9,10
