Transduction of capacity to produce the enzyme penicillinase among strains of S. aureus was accomplished. Four of 19 sensitive strains were capable of accepting the penicillinase marker. The 4 acceptor strains were sensitive to lysis by phages in Group I. Four different phages were capable of participating in the transduction process.
