Abstract

A survey of culicine mosquito larvae in northern Israel from 1974 to 1983 revealed the occurrence of 16 species. Geographical distribution, seasonality, habitat preferences, and frequency of interspecific associations were studied. Culex pipiens, Culex univittatus, and Culiseta longiareolata, which breed polluted habitats, were the 3 most common species. The occurrence of Culex martinii is also reported. This study complements a similar survey of anopheline larvae in northern Israel.
