Burrow systems of Pappogeomys castanops differed from burrow systems of the other two genera of North American geomyids (Geomys and Thomomys) in possessing grass and feces mound plugs, and in lacking a distinct shaft to a deep tunnel system. The single nest- opening was similar to that of Geomys and contrasted with multiple nest-openings of Thomomys. A single functional nest per burrow system was characteristic.
