Abstract

We examined the relationship between coordination of work and surgical outcomes for 44 hospitals. Study results provide partial support for our hypothesis that surgical services utilizing relatively high levels of both feedback and programming approaches to coordination would achieve the lowest risk-adjusted rates of adverse surgical outcomes (i.e., mortality and morbidity).
