Treatment of 5,5'-diformyldipyrrylmethanes with bromine followed by sulphuryl chloride yields 5,5'-diformyldipyrrylketones. Also, this type of product, or the acetoxymethyl derivative, can be obtained in certain cases by the lead tetraacetate oxidation of 5,5'-dimethyldipyrrylketones.
