Abstract

Previous research has found that religious involvement is a multidimensional phenomenon. The present study tested this hypothesis by having members of the Mennonite Church complete the 1968 Questionnaire (1968Q) developed and used in the King and Hunt investigations (1972a, 1975.) Factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis of the 1968Q items resulted in the extraction of seven factors: Personal Faith, Intolerance of Ambiguity: Revised, Orthodoxy, Social Conscience, Knowledge of Religious History, Life Purpose, and Church Involvement. Minimal support was found for the King and Hunt dimensions (1972a, 1975). No overlapping items on the factors and acceptable reliability data were found for the factors.
