Abstract

SummaryThe dissociation of biological properties of bacterial endotoxin by chemical modification is described. A fraction isolated after acetylation of endotoxin exhibits grossly reduced pyrogenicity and acute toxicity but retains the original potency in stimulating non-specific host resistance to infection.
