Paradigms and Computer Music

Abstract

Any system used for making music embodies a particular way of looking at music. These ways are called paradigms. The author defines the general notions of paradigm and representation and explains how these concepts apply to the design of computer-music systems. Several real systems are examined from the paradigmatic point of view.
