The aim of the observations reported in this paper is the investigation of the anatomy and histology of the American C. herculeanus pennsylvanicus together with a comparison of this species with the existing work on other closely related Formicidae. This report describes the digestive system with the associated glands, the heart and aorta, the non-functional reproductive system, and the poison apparatus. The tracheal and nervous systems have not been completely treated, and the blood, the muscles and the sensilla have not been considered at all.2
