amides.1 Such work so far with patients has given no significant results. Experimentation with laboratory animals is reported here. The immunological aspect of the toxic manifestations2?3'4 which occur during the course or sulfonamide therapy has been little studied. Some of the skin reactions and drug fevers particularly may have an allergic basis. From the paper by Tedder.5 and the remarks following it, a possible classification appears: (1) allergy, (2) photoallergy, and (3) toxic dermatitis or fever. Such reactions have been reported frequently for sulfanilamide and sulfapyridine,6'7*8 and more recently for sulfathiazole,9,10
