Thermal expansion studies of boric oxide glass and of crystalline boric oxide

Abstract

The expansion characteristics of a boric oxide (B20 a) glass and of a sample of crystalline boric oxide have been studied by the interferometer method. The results obtained are chiefly of qualitative interest, but offer a satisfactory picture of some of the difficulties that must be overcome if t rue expansion data are to be obtained on these materials.
