Scanning Electron Microscopic Observation of Particles Deposited in the Lung

Abstract

A preliminary investigation of the nonhomogenous distribution of deposited monodispersed polystyrene particles in different compartments of the lung in a rabbit is performed with the stereo-scanning electron microscope. The study points out some of the possibilities in using this microscope in such studies, as well as some of the disadvantages. The work also presents some structural findings, eg, the cilia of the bronchi.
