This paper is the first report on the separation of the hydrocarbons in the kerosene fraction of petroleum, which investigation is being carried on as part of the work of the American Petroleum Institute Research Project 6. That part of the petroleum distilling between 114 0 and 144 0 C at a pressure of 56 mm Hg (corresponding approximately to 200 0 and 230 0 C at 760 mm Hg) was separated into V.
