Inverted basins of The Netherlands

Abstract

This article aims to explain the complex geology of The Netherlands' inverted basins in the context of plate tectonics, and to illustrate the importance of a multidiscipIinary approach in evaluating hydrocarbon plays. Located far north of the Alpine deformation front, the Dutch Mesozoic basins have been subjected to severe compressional tectonics.
