Abstract

Numerous techniques, including dyed feathers (Leopold, et al., 1938: 5-6), Pyralin plastic tail plaques (Trippensee, 1941:121), and lacquered feathers (Kozicky and Weston, 1952), have been used to mark individual pheasants for field studies. These techniques are limited in usage, however, because (1) the markers cannot be observed at great distances, (2) the number of marking combinations is low, (3) the length of time required to attach the marker is generally prohibitive, and (4) the marker is lost when the bird molts.
