A novel method has been devised for the chromatographic determination of trace quantities of s-triazine-type herbicides in water. After preconcentration by sorption on a macroporous polymer sorbent and desorption with acetone, s-triazines are determined in the desorbate by gas or liquid chromatography. GLC with a nitrogen-phosphorus detector enables s-triazines in water to be determined in tenths-of-ppb quantities, and LC with a UV detector allows their determination in ppb. The recovery from the preconcentration step is virtually complete.
