Abstract

Survival of oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta (Busck), to the adult stage was > 90% when reared on a new formulated diet. Rearing procedures and a new ovipositional cage were developed. Head-capsule widths, developmental. times for each instar, and peak egg-laying periods for adult females were determmed. An inverse relationship between number of larvae in the diet and weight and number surviving to the pupal stage was found. The method was used to mass rear insects for quarantine research.
