The origin of replication of the Escherichia coli chromosome, oriC, has been located within a 5.9-megadalton (MD) EcoRI fragment which is positioned at 82.5 minutes, between the genetic markers uncB and asn, on the E. coli genetic map (see von Meyenburg et al., this volume).
