Abstract

SummaryThe conversion of thiocyanate to cyanide was confirmed, and evidence was presented indicating that this reaction occurs rapidly in vitro in the presence of a red blood cell constituent, possibly an enzyme. Physiologically significant concentrations of cyanide were observed in the blood of patients with serum thiocyanate values even below therapeutic levels.
