Abstract

<it>Seilacher, A. (Geol. Pal. Institut, Sigwartstrasse 10, Tubingen, Germany) 1974. Fabricational Noise in Adaptive Morphology. Syst. Zool. 22: 451–465</it>.—Physical principles of differentiation play an important part in the morphogeny of complex structures such as shell ornamentations, ammonite septa, and tooth striations. Since they require a relatively small amount of genetic information, resulting patterns may occur in unrelated taxonomic groups and functions as well as in accidental or functionally neutral situations.
