NTIL recently, no work had been reported on the detecU tion, isolation, or characterization of enteric cytopathogenic agents of avian origin. In 1959, Burke et al.12 reported the isolation of cytopathogenic viruses from rectal swabs. Pathogenicity tests performed in embryonating eggs indicated that more than one group of agents had been isolated. In view of these findings, this study was done in an attempt to isolate agents from the intestinal tracts of chickens and to classify them with serum-neutralizing tests.
