The spectrographic determination of small amounts of boron in thin steel rods and in massive pieces of steel was investigated by using several types of arc-like discharges. The sensitivity and accuracy in determining boron were found to be affected by variations in the rate of cooling of the electrodes. With %2-inchrod electrodes, the high-voltage alternating-current arc permits determinations down to 0.0006 percent of boron, with an average deviation of 4 percent.
