WeaverJim Weaver was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1941 and did his undergraduate work in mathematics at Kent State University in Ohio. He wrote his dissertation in group theory under Joseph Adney at Michigan State University. Since then he has been at The University of West Florida, except for a sabbatical leave which was spent at The University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. His primary interest at this time is in linear algebra and he has been intimately involved with mathematics competition for the community colleges of the southeastern portion of the United States since 1973.
