Lutzomyia olmeca nociva, a new subspecies of phlebotomine sand fly in the Lutzomyia flaviscutellata complex, is described and illustrated from males and females collected at and near Manaus, Brazil. Collections from human and horse bait and light and flight traps indicate that this form outnumbers Lu. flaviscutellata in the study area. No natural flagellate infections were found in either species.
