Correlation of Mineralogical and Textural Characteristics with Engineering Properties of Granitic Rock from Hulu Langat, Selangor

Abstract

In this study, the study area was at Hulu Langat in order to study the relationship between mineralogical characteristics and mechanical properties of rock. The type of rock found is granitic rocks. In order to study and determine the mineralogical characteristics of the rocks, thin section of rocks were prepared. Some minerals that abundance was observed in the rocks are quartz, feldspar, mica, clay-rich minerals and accessory minerals. The same rock samples that were collected from 10 tunnel distances then tested to determine point load strength index, uniaxial compressive strength and tensile strength. The relationships between these properties and mineralogical characteristics are described by simple regression analyses.
