A new family of aligned nitrogen-doped core–sheath carbon nanotube films is synthesized by growing nitrogen-doped graphene layers coaxially around carbon nanotubes. The films exhibit both high tensile strength and electrical conductivity, and they are developed as flexible and effective anodes for lithium ion batteries that display high specific capacities. The lithium ion battery stably works under bending and twisting. As a service to our authors and readers, this journal provides supporting information supplied by the authors.
