A possible method for obtaining the superconducting YBa2Cu3Oy fiber, based on the sol-gel process, has been presented. The gel fibers were directly drawn from homogeneous viscous sol prepared from aqueous acetate solution of the composition, Y:Ba:Cu=1:2:3 in mole. The heat treatment of the gel fibers up to 910°C in air successfully resulted in the formation of black ceramic fibers of about 10μm in diameter. The scanning electron micrographs showed a rough and porous nature of the fired fibers.
