Abstract

Calli were Induced from microspores and polyhaplold seedlings were regenerated from the calli In several common wheats by using chemically defined nutrient media. There appeared to be genotype-medium Interaction because plants of some cultivars responded in vitro better than others. Chromosome number in root tips of regenerated plants showed that they were predominantly polyhaploids (2n = 3x = 21) but few had 14 and one had only 7 chromosomes. Twenty-eight regenerated plants were vigorous but completely sterile unless treated with colchicine. One albino was observed.
