Abstract Cod (Gadus morhua) were caught in the outer Oslofjord, Norway, from an area where common seals (Phoca vitulina) are abundant and from two areas where seals are only sporadically seen. The fish were examined for the nematode Pseudoterranova decipiens, which mainly is encapsulated in the flesh of the fish. The results show that infected fish were caught only in the vicinity of the area where the seals have their resting and whelping place (haulout). Highest infection was found near the preferred haulout site, with a decrease away from this site.
