Abstract

The case is described of a nurse, the executive secretary of a tuberculosis society, who applied for workmen's compensation because of radiation dermatitis. Investigation revealed that in x raying children she was in the habit of holding them during radiographic examination--- exposing her hands to the direct beam of the x-ray tube. Her hands showed typical radiation dermatitis over both dorsal surfaces. Geneeal protection procedures are outlined. It is suggested that an educational program is essential in any hospital or clinic using x rays or isotopes, and must include more than a set of rules and procedures for radiation protection. (BBB)
