The quantitative importance of prebuckling-rotation terms in the stability equations for structural shells is examined for cylindrical shells subjected to axisymmetric lateral pressure. In the cases investigated the greatest unconservative error due to neglect of the terms is found to be about 20%. Errors of that magnitude are limited to cylinder length-to-radius ratios of not more than about 0.5.
