A new type of CuFe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>/g-C<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub>composite for photocatalytic H<sub>2</sub>production by water splitting under visible light has been prepared by a facile one-pot calcination approach using urea and a CuFe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>gel as precursors.
