She completed her Masters degree at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). She has also practised in a number of areas of nursing. Valerie Sutherland is Director of the Centre for Business Psychology and lectures in Organisational Psychology at UMIST. Her research interests are in occupational stress and management development, and she has worked extensively with both public and private sector organizations.
