Abstract

IN the system of bacterial classification proposed by a committee of the Society of American Bacteriologists [Bergey, 1934], the very closely related green fluorescent bacteria occurring chiefly in soil and water are grouped together as the genus Pseudomonas. In common with most other bacterial characteristics pigmentation has, from time to time, been considered a variable cultural factor.
