Abstract

A new solid‐state electrochemical cell for sensing has been set up using a sintered solid electrolyte and a sintered body as reference electrode. The electromotive force (emf) of the cell, the reproducibility and the long‐term stability of the sensor signals have been examined under both dry and humid conditions at temperatures between 300 and . The emf is dependent on the partial pressure of and can be expressed by the Nernst equation. The sensitivity to is affected by the presence of water vapor, but the emf response in humid gas is also Nernstian. The cell is long‐term stable at temperatures as low as and the sensor signals are reproducible with high accuracy. ©1999 The Electrochemical Society
