<div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>A</b>S the result of a six years' study of photographs taken at 40,000 and 200,000 frames per sec, Mr. Miller has become convinced that knock is best explained by a combination of the detonation-wave and the autoignition theories.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">In other words, he feels that knock is actually caused by a detonation wave that follows autoignition of the end gas.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">As Mr. Miller shows in this paper, the results of many earlier research programs also favor the combined theory.</div>
