An enzymatic method for measurement of erythrocyte galactose-1-phosphate has been studied in relation to the dietary of galactosemia patients. The accumulation of galactose-1-phosphate in erythrocytes has been examined under varying circumstances. In the galactosemic patient, an intake of as little as 2 gms of galactose is reflected promptly in a detectable amount of erythrocyte galactose-1-phosphate. Used in serial determinations, the procedure has been useful in management of the galactosemic patient.
