Mechanism of Brake Fade in Organic Brake Linings

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">The object of this study was to determine the major mechanism which produces brake fade in organic brake lining materials. The major mechanism of fade was developed and illustrated by a series of experiments. This mechanism is not limited to phenolic base materials, but includes a variety of materials with particular properties in common. Methods of reducing fade based on this mechanism are examined.</div>
