The deep dorsal vein of the penis passes through the urogenital diaphragm and trifurcates into a superficial branch and 2 lateral plexuses. There are 3 regional valvular systems in the deep dorsal venous system. An operative technique is presented for the management of this venous system in radical retropubic operations that minimizes blood loss and improves exposure © 1979 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byBoehm K, Larcher A, Tian Z, Mandel P, Schiffmann J, Karakiewicz P, Graefen M, Huland H and Tilki D (2016) Low Other Cause Mortality Rates Reflect Good Patient Selection in Patients with Prostate Cancer Treated with Radical ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 196, NO. 1, (82-88), Online publication date: 1-Jul-2016.Mullins J, Feng Z, Trock B, Epstein J, Walsh P and Loeb S (2012) The Impact of Anatomical Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy on Cancer Control: The 30-Year AnniversaryJournal of Urology, VOL. 188, NO. 6, (2219-2224), Online publication date: 1-Dec-2012.Walsh P (2018) The Discovery of the Cavernous Nerves and Development of Nerve Sparing Radical Retropubic ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 177, NO. 5, (1632-1635), Online publication date: 1-May-2007.Guzzo T, Vira M, Wang Y, Tomaszewski J, D'amico A, Wein A and Malkowicz S (2018) Preoperative Parameters, Including Percent Positive Biopsy, in Predicting Seminal Vesicle Involvement in Patients with Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 175, NO. 2, (518-522), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2006.HAN M, PARTIN A, ZAHURAK M, PIANTADOSI S, EPSTEIN J and WALSH P (2018) Biochemical (Prostate Specific Antigen) Recurrence Probability Following Radical Prostatectomy for Clinically Localized Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 169, NO. 2, (517-523), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2003.Walsh P and Donker P (2018) Impotence following radical prostatectomy: Insight into etiology and preventionJournal of Urology, VOL. 167, NO. 2 Part 2, (1005-1010), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2002.RUIZ-DEYA G, DAVIS R, SRIVASTAV S, WISE A and THOMAS R (2018) OUTPATIENT RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY: IMPACT OF STANDARD PERINEAL APPROACH ON PATIENT OUTCOMEJournal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 2, (581-586), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2001.KULKARNI J, GULLA R, TONGAONKAR H, KASHYAPI B and RAJYAGURU K (2018) RADICAL CYSTOPROSTATECTOMY: AN EXTRAPERITONEAL RETROGRADE APPROACHJournal of Urology, VOL. 161, NO. 2, (545-548), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1999.WALSH P (2018) ANATOMIC RADICAL PROSTATECTOMYJournal of Urology, VOL. 160, NO. 6 Part 2, (2418-2424), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1998.Ennemoser O, Colleselli K, Reissigl A, Poisel S, Janetschek G and Bartsch G (2018) Posttraumatic Posterior Urethral Stricture Repair: Anatomy, Surgical Approach and Long-Term ResultsJournal of Urology, VOL. 157, NO. 2, (499-505), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1997.Walsh P, Partin A and Epstein J (2018) Cancer Control and Quality of Life Following Anatomical Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy: Results at 10 YearsJournal of Urology, VOL. 152, NO. 5 Part 2, (1831-1836), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1994.Hedican S and Walsh P (2018) Postoperative Bleeding Following Radical Retropubic ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 152, NO. 4, (1181-1183), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1994.Hrebinko R and O'Donnell W (2018) Control of the Deep Dorsal Venous Complex in Radical Retropubic ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 149, NO. 4, (799-800), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1993.Yamada A, Lieskovsky G, Skinner D, Shulman I, Groshen S and Chen S (2018) Impact of Autologous Blood Transfusions on Patients Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy Using Hypotensive AnesthesiaJournal of Urology, VOL. 149, NO. 1, (73-76), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1993.Yu G, Schwab F, Melograna F, DePalma R, Miller H and Rickholt A (2018) Preoperative and Postoperative Dynamic Cavernosography and Cavernosometry: Objective Assessment of Venous Ligation for ImpotenceJournal of Urology, VOL. 147, NO. 3 Part 1, (618-622), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1992.
