Over the last few years, the level of growth in tourism in Australia has been amongst the highest in the world, according to figures from the World Tourism Organisation.5 The number of international visitors to Australia has approximately doubled in the last seven years [ ] Given the importance of tourism to the Australian economy and the lack of objective data on the crime risk which tourists face, the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research commissioned a survey of crime victimisation among international tourists visiting NSW. This bulletin presents the results of this survey and provides both a profile of the characteristics of international visitors to NSW and their experience of crime whilst staying in NSW.
