All 6 members with stones who were evaluated were shown to have absorptive hypercalciuria. The mother of 2 members with stones did not suffer stones but had biochemical evidence of absorptive hypercalciuria (increased intestinal calcium absorption, hypercalciuria and normal parathyroid function). Nephrolithiasis was encountered only in the progeny of members who had stones or biochemical absorptive hypercalciuria. The results suggest that physiological feature(s) of absorptive hypercalciuria may be an expression of the genetic trait. © 1981 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByVezzoli G, Soldati L and Gambaro G (2018) Update on Primary Hypercalciuria From a Genetic PerspectiveJournal of Urology, VOL. 179, NO. 5, (1676-1682), Online publication date: 1-May-2008.Pak C (2018) Medical Stone Management: 35 Years of AdvancesJournal of Urology, VOL. 180, NO. 3, (813-819), Online publication date: 1-Sep-2008.Nicolaidou P, Themeli S, Karpathios T, Georgouli H, Athanassaki K, Xaidara A and Messaritakis J (2018) Family Pattern of Idiopathic Hypercalciuria and its SubtypesJournal of Urology, VOL. 155, NO. 3, (1042-1044), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1996.Favus M (2018) Familial Forms of HypercalciuriaJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 3 Part 2, (719-722), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1989.Pak C, Sakhaee K, Hwang T, Preminger G and Harvey J (2018) Nephrolithiasis from Calcium SupplementationJournal of Urology, VOL. 137, NO. 6, (1212-1213), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1987.
